It wasn’t just a dream. This year in Mantua, we saw the entire world in Vespa, even a Finnish chihuahua wearing a helmet and driving goggles. There were Viviana and Gianluca, newlyweds from Termini Imerese on their honeymoon. There was the Belgium paratrooper with an extremely rare military model, equipped with a cannon and missiles. Nicki, from New Zealand: eighty years old and planning on touring Europe by Vespa. Without forgetting four representatives of the St. Petersburg Club with an over 3,000 km journey behind them.
Before our eyes, we still visualize the dense mass of Vespas 10 km long: during the parade, enthusiasts travelled along city streets to San Benedetto Po, and were so close together they could hug each other.
For four consecutive days, from 12 to 15 June, the town of Gonzaga welcomed 32 countries and 310 Vespa Clubs. A huge number of Vespa enthusiasts dressed up in costumes from the present to the past: there was even an unblinking Roman gladiator among the crowd of 10,000!
From their personalized Vespa seats, participants visited fascinating landscapes in the Mantua area, both natural and artistic, and celebrated the opening of Motoplex, the new concept store of the Piaggio Group. At the launch party, Aprilia Superbike riders Marco Melandri and Sylvain Guintoli joined the Vespa enthusiasts to admire the 1300 m2 available: a store and a show room, but also two lounges equipped with huge video screens, a bar and the possibility to watch live events in web streaming. New openings are scheduled throughout the world
For this edition, the Vespa Trophy left Mantua with the delegation of the Pordenone Club. The group from Friuli presented the Travel Book with the most photos and stamps, documenting their journey to the host city in the greatest number of Vespas.
